Prizes, Awards and Other Benefits
The size and amount of the Prizes is
directly relational to the number of participants, community
support and how long the challenge takes to complete. Our projections of participating teams in the
range of the numbers of teams which decide to tackle this challenge,
indicate the prizes are $25 million for the top
team, with prizes to 10 teams which placed in the winners
circle and up to 250 runners up (for meritorious inventions). The
additional winners 'pot' continues
to grow until it is won. Monies from communities sponsoring the
trials, and finals are added, as are funds from sponsoring
corporations, individuals and advertisers. The total amount of
winnings for this technology challenge are expected to grow beyond
$25,000,000 Canadian dollars. Some companies may add other
incentives, awards and prizes.
Seeing the cost of entry is low
by comparison to the Lunar X-Prize and the material costs for creating the model HiBot are low we
anticipate teams from a high percentage of high-school physics
classes as well as university classes of physics and engineering
students. Educational institutions may mount more than one team to
increase their likelihood of being represented amongst the winners.
(Anyone wanting to be part of the challenge is free to raise their
own funding and enter. Entry is not conditional except as our limitations state.)
It is expected to take a few years to
complete the full slate of trial requirements. (The tentative date
for the finals and awards is in 2010. However, please
note it is not impossible the challenge could be complete and won in
one year with diligent efforts. Creativity is difficult to schedule,
as are the efforts of people who are certain they can achieve
results in a shorter time when the right incentives are there.)
Watch for the
HiBots Challenge Pool, coming soon. To win the pool guess the
times each of the 10 winning teams register their claim for 'Stage
One Liftoff', or guess the time for each team 'crossing
the finish line' and other high points of the challenge.
